What to Expect from Psychotherapy with Marnie

Hello, and thank you for exploring therapy together. Beginning the journey of getting unstuck and finding more meaning and joy in your life is a process that can be wrought with hugely complex emotions. It is also, for most, deeply healing, cathartic and ultimately fulfilling. I provide a safe and supportive space for individuals, couples, teens and families to work on whatever is holding you back. By engaging in a therapeutic process, life can start to feel more manageable, and contentment and happiness has more space to take hold.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist and a Registered Social Worker with an MA in Counselling Psychology and over 15 years of experience providing confidential, compassionate and skilled support. I have training and experience with many modalities that include Gestalt, Mindfulness, Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Narrative therapy, sensory awareness, and Emotion Focused Therapy. I specialize in relationships, intimacy, and sexuality.

During our work together, you can expect presence, humour, and deep caring. Our work together will invite many opportunities for self-discovery as you stretch and uncover your ability to connect with your dreams, your grief, your fears and your hope. We will work together to uncover the power and presence that is uniquely yours to feel and to hold. Support is possible. You are not alone.

My approach to Psychotherapy explores and honors the fullness of your emotions and our therapeutic relationship in the present to uncover your anger, your sadness, and your hope as your feelings connect with your stress, your pain, your struggles and your strengths. This type of counselling is an experiential approach that makes use of creativity, body attunement and explorative talk and play to grow awareness, relationships and connection.

I have many years of experience supporting individuals, couples, teens, and families coping with life transitions and challenges that include anxiety and overwhelm, depression, addictions, eating disorders, fertility, abortion, pregnancy loss, birth and postpartum adjustments, parenting struggles, disability, grief and bereavement, break-ups and relationship challenges,  sexuality, sexual abuse and family related trauma. My approach is pro choice, sex positive, poly aware, as well as LGBTQ welcoming.

I am here to support you with competence, mindfulness and compassion.  I believe in my clients’ capacity for healing and growth. I will challenge, guide and support you as you make sense of what is most precious to you. We will work together to explore where your feelings of purpose, love, care and belonging may have become stuck; and ultimately how your deepest truths can take root and grow.

“…Real creativity, in my experience, is inextricably linked with the awareness of mortality. The sharper this awareness, the greater the urge to bring forth something new, to participate in the infinitely continuing creativeness in nature, This is what makes out of sex, love; out of the herd, society; out of wheat and fruit, bread and wine; and out of sound, music. This is what makes life livable and incidentally makes therapy possible.” – Laura Perls (co-founder of Gestalt Therapy)
