Marnie’s Skills and Experience

I am a Registered Psychotherapist as well as a Registered Social Worker. I have completed my fifth year of post graduate training at the Gestalt Institute of Toronto. I have a Master of Arts Degree with honors in Adult Education and Counselling Psychology from OISE, University of Toronto.

I have extensive training in yoga, mindfulness meditation, narrative therapy and arts based approaches to therapy both in Canada and internationally. I look forward to creating a healing relationship that makes space for the power of body awareness, story, movement and play in your healing journey.

I use a Gestalt, Feminist and anti-oppression influenced approach to therapy which recognizes the power of your own lived experience in surviving the trauma and/or challenges you have faced.

I have spent many years working in Toronto and overseas with adults, children and families. I have worked extensively with children, adults and families who are coping with systemic challenges around marginalization, developmental disabilities, autism and inclusion.

I have also spent many years working as a birth/labour doula, as well as a therapist for women experiencing birth and post-partum adjustments, unplanned pregnancies, abortion and pregnancy/infant loss, and parenting struggles.

I work as an ally with people experiencing racialization, sexism, sexual and domestic violence, homophobia, psychiatric labeling and ableism. I am interested in exploring your lived experience and feelings of exclusion, transformation, grief and resilience.

The work I have done personally and professionally has provided me with the opportunity to connect with many courageous people from diverse backgrounds and life circumstances, as well as with community groups working towards transformation, action and change.

I am deeply committed to nurturing the possibility of health, respect, change and the mutuality of healing. My hope is to continue to work and live in spaces that break down walls of shame and open venues for community building and empowerment, informed decision making, deep connection and personal growth.
